Publication Consent Procedure

The Publication Consent Procedure, shown below, is provided to all VHCS families during school registration each year. Families may agree or opt-out of the Procedure during registration.

Vestavia Hills City Schools (VHCS) periodically documents classroom and school activities through photography, videography, and other media recording methods. Such recordings may be used for instructional purposes, publicity, and community outreach. This includes, but is not limited to: print publications (such as newspapers or magazines), online platforms (including the VHCS website, social media pages, and e-newsletters), press releases, reports, and any other media now known or hereafter devised.

By agreeing to this Publication Consent Procedure, you are granting VHCS the permission to use photographs, videos, digital images, or any other recorded content — including related intellectual property (as defined below) — in official publications and other media. This consent covers all uses for publicity, instructional purposes, and community relations, whether in traditional print or digital/online formats. You authorize VHCS to copyright, reproduce, distribute, display, modify, and otherwise secure any such content in any and all formats and on any media, including but not limited to online, social media, and mobile platforms. You hereby release and hold harmless VHCS and its employees from any liability arising from the use, reproduction, modification, or publication of the photographs, videos, or any other recorded content, including any claims regarding the intellectual property rights therein.

For purposes of this consent, “intellectual property” includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Directory information as defined in the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99);
  • Honors, awards, and special recognitions; and
  • Any classroom or extracurricular work associated with the aforementioned recognitions.
