Extended Day Program

The Vestavia Hills City Schools Extended Day Program is here to give your child a safe, supportive place to land after school — every school day, until 6:00 p.m. We serve students in grades K–8 at each of our elementary and middle school campuses, so your child stays in a familiar environment with familiar faces.

Your child's day in EDP doesn't stop when the bell rings. Each afternoon includes snacks, active games, and physical activities to help kids unwind — along with a dedicated homework period of at least 30 minutes so they can arrive home ready for family time. Our site directors and activity leaders are locally hired, Red Cross trained, and genuinely invested in the kids they work with every day.

Safety is built into everything we do in EDP. Our program operates under the same Emergency Operations Plan as Vestavia Hills City Schools, which is reviewed annually and aligned with Alabama State Department of Education guidelines. Safety drills and training are conducted by school administrators per ALSDE requirements.

Beyond the plan, we invest in layered safety measures that are both visible and invisible. We also work in close partnership with the Vestavia Hills Police Department, Vestavia Hills Fire Department, and the Jefferson County Emergency Management Agency to ensure our safety planning reflects the best available resources.
